1 - What is a Traffic Exchange and How Do I Sign Up

Date April 1, 2008

A Traffic Exchange is like an advertising club where members view the websites of other members in exchange for the other members viewing theirs.

Websites can be viewed within the surfing frame which is the ’standard’ way we think of Traffic Exchanges or by clicking on banners and text links.

Why Should You Use a Traffic Exchange?

Traffic Exchanges not only give you a method of advertising that reaches a very diverse audience, they also allow you several other opportunities:

1. You can see WHAT others are advertising, what are the popular programs and ideas.

2. You can see HOW others are advertising.. is there a specific way they are targeting a certain group..
are they using methods different from what you use?

3. Traffic Exchanges also allow you the excellent opportunity of branding yourself. When you brand
yourself you make yourself familiar.. easily recognized. Think of brand names that you easily
recognize by sight.. for instance ‘The Golden Arches’.. you see the arches and you know a big mac
is not far behind.

When you brand yourself, people begin to recognize you and people feel like they know someone who they recognize on sight. You become a trusted source.. someone that other members what to listen to, even purchase from.

Your First Step: Signing Up

Traffic Exchanges are all, in their basic form, membership sites, so you must open an account with each Traffic Exchange you intend to use. This is a simple thing to do and can be completed in a couple of minutes.

The initial sign-up process will require you to enter your name and a valid email address. You may also be asked for information about your web site.

In most cases, you will be asked to select a username and password with which to access your member’s only area. Some exchanges will assign you with a user number and an auto-generated password.

Once you have completed the sign-up form, you will receive a validation email. Look in your email folder for a subject line that reads ‘Validate Your Account’, ‘Verify Your Account’ or something similar. You will need to click the link indicated in this message in order to validate your membership and prove that you own the email address you have used to register your membership.

This is required to insure that you receive important communications such as support responses, program updates, and so forth.

Simply click on the designated link within the validation email and you will be taken to a confirmation page.

Once your email is validated, you are ready to login to your account with your username and password.
